Biophysics 2

My experiences receiving acupuncture treatments showed me that it is powerful energy medicine. After the first treatment I ever received, I could feel energy circulating through all the parts of my body. It felt as though I had only been living in half of my body and I was welcoming back the parts ignored to live with me again. I have begun crying of deep sadness with the insertion of a needle; I have felt anger and frustration spewing from needled points as well. There are many more examples I could list just from my own experiences of healing with acupuncture; they all lead me to conclude that acupuncture is effective energy medicine.
Human intent effects health; as healers and recipients of healing it is very important to be aware of intention. Placebo and nocebo effects are widely documented. Some in the west choose to interpret these concepts as a marker of ineffective practices or medicine; I see these effects as compelling evidence of the power of intention.
I appreciate the concept of Kirlian photography as a way to interpret energy and talk about energy and intention to Western folks like evidence outside of themselves. I enjoyed looking through the studies that show the same image with different intentions from the individual; however, the methodology leaves something to be desired for me. After reviewing the images and the skeptic point of view, I am not very excited about Kirlian photography. If it helps some people to engage with it, that’s great. I would rather engage with energy in a different format.

Week 9 Relfections

My E-Prime Day This morning I awoke at 7am, according to the widely agreed upon concept of time in San Francisco, CA. I poured water into a kettle and turned the dial on the stove until a flame ignited on the burner. When the kettle made a noise that I call a whistle, I turned the dial to discontinue the gas supply to the flame. I removed jars filled with dry herbs from a kitchen cabinet and added them to a vessel with the hot water to make tea.   I ate food. I walked outside of the building and down the street. I stopped walking at the space on the street marked by signs as a bus stop. When a bus marked 30 stopped next to the curb and the doors opened, I stepped up onto the bus and sat down in a seat that did not contain a human. I removed the notes I took in Physiology from the bag I bought with me and read about the respiratory system in the human body.   When the bus stopped and the doors opened at my intended destination, I departed from the vehicle and walked to t...

Week 1 Reflections

I really enjoyed the conversation about time, specifically the delin eation between M -Time and P-Time. I have felt held hostage by tim e, sometimes with a loathing for the concept . I have also felt a pang of self-consciousness about my preoccupation with time when the people around me seem indifferent to schedules and deadlines. Hall's description breaks down the time paradigms elegantly and helped me to see the contra dictory views w ith which I approach time. I see points on both sides of the chart that I have tried to fit into one view of time, leading to frustration. I strongly associate the P-Time, and for years have dreamt of the scenario where I buil d the foundation o f my life in accordance with those values. Some of the deta ils include living close r to natural cyc les and working for myself . However, we live in a western socie ty and M-time rules. I adhered to M-time to make it through all of my formal education , many jobs and even to strengthen relationship...

Week 8 Reflections

Newton's Laws and me: Newton’s first law states that a force must be applied to change the state of an object. An object in motion will remain in motion at a constant speed and velocity unless acted on by a force. An object at rest will remain at rest until acted upon by a force. A force must be applied to change the trajectory. I relate to this when I think of how it is I bring myself to change my state of being. I sometimes use stress to motivate be to change my state and become more productive with schoolwork. Emotions feel like a force that is acting on me to get me to change my speed or direction. The second law states that acceleration in directly proportional to the force applied to the object and inversely proportional to the mass of the object. I relate to this when I think of how much more difficult it is to get started on a large project versus a small task. Or how much more force it takes to get a group of people to do an activity together than to rally one or ...
