Week 6 Refections

Vibrations are neither good nor bad. Vibrations are important. Our hearing and vision senses are ways to observe vibrations. Quantum particles are localized vibrations. After the lesson on resonance I have a new perspective on phrases like "good vibes" and "bad vibes" and "don't kill my vibe." When I think of our vibes and the vibes of other people with the concept of resonance, I realize that when a person picks up negative energy someone else and reflects it, they are re-sounding the frequency of that emotion that was amplified within them. This idea of taking on the emotions of those around you (and how to guard against it) comes up for me when considering a career in medicine. It's something very important for me to consider for working with patients. The shorthand in English for Qi is often "life energy," though often a string of many words and phrases are used in conjunction. I think of the quality of qi in the living organism as t...

Week 5 Reflections

If the world were symmetrical… we would not be here! Everything would be balanced (out), and our world as we know it would not exist.   I am going to paraphrase Susan Weed who said that our pursuit of health is a continual process of guiding ourselves toward balance. We are never balanced as long as we live! When we finally find balance, we die. Bless the kaons for illuminating our asymmetrical world. These sneaky mesons and their CP violations show us that we have much to learn about our universe! The standard model is a model of the moment we are living, but it is bound to become a relic of history as our levels of awareness expand. I was so happy to talk about sacred geometry this week. It is so pleasing and beautiful to observe. The examples of sacred geometry are the fingerprints of the greater forces working in the universe. The connections between sacred geometry and physics are that the forces we study in physics are shaping our bodies, our galaxy, and life on this...

Week 4 Reflections

The equation e=mc2 has affected me by illuminating experiences that I have had with Vipassana meditation when I begin to perceive the energy of units of smaller and smaller mass. I appreciate that this formula demonstrates how much energy is contained in even the smallest amount of mass. I compare the four forces by the ways in which they shape our world. The strong nuclear force holds protons together to form the nucleus of atoms; it is also responsible for the force of nuclear reactions. The weak nuclear force attracts electrons to the atom and is responsible for radioactive decay. The electromagnetic force is what holds atoms together to shape and harden the physical objects we touch including ourselves). Gravity attracts objects to each other and is responsible for the tides, which help shape the surface of our planet. Our physiology is shaped by the force of gravity. The length of our rotation around the sun is dictated by gravity.

Week 3 Reflections

Synchronocities are "meaningful coincidences" that are seemingly unrelated (from the scientific perspective?). I have always felt that there is no such thing as a true coincidence; everything is in relationship. As Deepak Chopra writes in this week's class packet, "Reality functions as a unified whole. Everything from subatomic particles to galaxies operates as one." Coincidence is a word we use to describe the instances where we are not able to perceive the connections with our conscious mind; our intuition can make the connection. Chopra goes on to say that "if we have sufficient self-awareness... we see the invisible nature of reality as it truly is, not as it appears." The evidence I have for synchronicity comes from my own experiences. I really enjoyed Deepak Chopra's description of those moments of synchronicity which "[lift] us momentarily into a state of awareness where the universe is pervaded by order, harmony, beauty truth, love, ...
